Where nature meets history …
Nature, history and hospitality are the characteristics of this Alpine pass, the most represented in the world.
Nature is severe and fascinating at the same time, it is never the same because the clouds, the sun and the wind constantly change the scenery.
The Great St Bernard Pass preserves the history of European men, from the Celts up to the modern era. It is the meeting place between northern and southern Europe.
Saint Bernard sensed that man has a fundamental and very concrete need “to be welcomed” in a thousand different forms. An apparently usual and common place that can be the occasion for many surprises.

Here’s what you can do:
BY FOOT
TREKKING AND TRAILS
Maison de refuge
The trail is relatively easy and is located within the beautiful frame of the Great St Bernard Pass. The trail crosses woods and gentle, grassy slopes. It starts from Saint Rhemy and arrives to the Maison de Refuge.
The height difference is about 600 metres and the estimated time to walk the trail is 2 hours.
Chamois, ibexes, hares and eagles can be admired along the way.
The trail is open from mid-June to mid-September.
A 3D video of the “Maison de Refuge” trail is available on the Vivavda Youtube channel.
Fenêtre Lakes
The hike to the Fenêtre Lakes at an altitude of about 2457m leads to two wonderful little Alpine lakes on the Great St Bernard Pass.
The height difference is about 300 metres and it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach the lakes from the Hotel Italia San Bernardo.
At the top, the view is enchanting: you can admire the entire Mont Blanc massif and in particular the Grandes Jorasses and the Mont Dolent.
